Remembering our friend John Milner
Jane Leverette Vice Chair, Hartwell, Ga 08/11/2024

As I sit down to write this tribute, I find it hard to encapsulate the essence of a man who was not only a mentor but also a friend to many. John Milner, who passed away at the age of 88, leaves behind a legacy that will forever resonate within our community. I had the honor of serving as Vice Chair of the Hart County Democratic Committee under his leadership for several years, and in that time, I witnessed firsthand the remarkable spirit that defined him.

Despite his age, John never slowed down. He was a whirlwind of energy and kindness, always busy in his garden, nurturing both plants and friendships alike. Whether it was taking friends to their doctor appointments or aiding those in need, John had an unwavering commitment to service. He embodied the belief that we should always strive to make the world a better place, standing up for what is right, even when faced with adversity.

Living in a predominantly Republican area, John often faced criticism for his Democratic beliefs. Yet, he stood tall, unyielding in his convictions. His courage to speak out and advocate for justice inspired many, and I am certain that his story could fill the pages of a book.

John’s impact on our lives is immeasurable. He taught us the value of perseverance, compassion, and integrity. His mentorship guided me and so many others, shaping our paths in ways we will forever be grateful for.

As we bid farewell to our dear friend, we carry forward his spirit of resilience and kindness. Thank you, John, for your service, inspiration, and guidance. You will be deeply missed, but your legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know you.
